Euro VI engines
In 2020/2021, 78.7% of truck engines and 96%
of our vans were operating with Euro VI engines,
which are the best performing diesel engines in
terms of air quality and emissions. This is an
improvement against our 2019/20 levels, when
66.93% of our trucks were operating with Euro
VI engines. By the end of the 2021/22 financial
year, we aim to be operating at 86.99% Euro VI
for trucks. This is based on our current fleet and
on orders placed/anticipated; these could
fluctuate slightly. L35
Engine idling
A certain amount of engine idling is inevitable,
especially given the number of deliveries we fulfil
in urban areas with often heavy traffic. In
2018/19 we achieved 11.05%, in 2019/20 it was
10.6%. For 2020/21 the figure was xxxxxx
Renewable energy
We currently have solar panels at our Chepstow
depot. We consume most of the energy they
produce and pass on any surplus back to the
national grid. We are at the early stages of
investigating the technologies to further reduce
our reliance on grid electricity.
No more company
cars
We're all doing less business mileage now, as
more sustainable and flexible ways of working
have become business as usual. To reflect this,
we've discontinued company cars, and
enhanced the car benefit payments that
individuals can receive. L10
Employee
business mileage
For obvious reasons, the 2020/21 financial year
has seen a record low in employee business
mileage and therefore emissions: L8 (chart) and

Both people and planet have seen the benefits
of greater flexibility in being able to work from
home more (where roles permit) so we set up a
project called The Future of Work to facilitate
discussions about how we head into 2022 and
beyond. For more information on this project,
