In May 2021, three groups of Bidfood
employees teamed up with representatives from
some of our suppliers and together with other
hospitality industry based teams, undertook the
challenge to collectively cover enough miles of
running, walking, cycling and swimming to reach
Nicaragua virtually. The challenge overall raised
£90,587, with 'Bidfood Green Machine" being
named as runners up in the fundraising league
table. In all, the Bidfood based teams raised
£12,880, and the unofficial award for best team
name goes to "Bidfood Legs Misérables"! L10

The pandemic led to widespread furloughing of
employees at both The Prince's Trust and
Bidfood, which meant that the usual ways we
have supported the work of the Trust were put
on hold. However, the level of need amongst the
young people typically helped by the Trust has
hugely increased; young people account for
70% of the total fall in employment since the
start of the pandemic and are 4 times more likely
to be unemployed than the rest of the working
age population. 50% of young people say their
mental health has worsened since the start of
the pandemic[1]. The Prince's Trust changed
their training model to deliver online sessions on
wellbeing and employability, which helped
engage some young people that had been less
likely to travel to face to face sessions.
We are starting to make plans to work together
more closely again in the second half of 2021
onwards.
