Shield packs
We joined forces with government and competitor Brakes to deliver
over five million vital food packs to clinically vulnerable people
shielding, in the biggest food redistribution scheme since World War
II. Our CEO also asked employees' children to draw pictures to
include in care packs, boosting the morale of recipients.
From the first call with DEFRA, we were delivering food packs to
clinically vulnerable people within nine days. Over its course, Bidfood
teams made more than 2.7 million deliveries of vital food supplies to
over 377,000 households. At its peak, we delivered 232,000 boxes
per week. Together with Brakes, the scheme saw five million
delivered across England, Scotland and Wales. Whilst we're not able
to divulge the financial details of this contract, it was essential in
keeping our wheels turning, enabling us to continue serving other
customers fighting Covid-19 on the front line.
Hundreds of drawings were sent in by the children of Bidfood
employees making an enormous difference and bringing joy to
recipients. We therefore decided to print many, sending out over
700,000. These drew an incredible response with moving letters and
messages of thanks received by drivers, telesales and on social
media- reducing our staff to tears in some cases. Insert p25 -

Employees go potty for Toilet Twinning and better sanitation
National Toilet Day 2019 kick-started our campaign to raise money to
help improve sanitation across the world, via Toilet Twinning.
Every £60 that is donated to the Toilet Twinning scheme helps fund a
project in a poor community that will enable families to build a basic
toilet, have access to clean water and learn about hygiene - a vital
combination that saves lives, more important than ever during the
coronavirus pandemic.
Currently two billion people don't have somewhere safe and hygienic
to go to the toilet and the lack of a loo makes women and girls a
target for sexual attack as they relieve themselves in the open, late at
night (WHO/UNICEF). This project also supports Sustainable
Development Goal 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation for All, which we
have committed to support. Insert P6 - Toilet twinning display
Our sustainability coordinators began spreading awareness across
our sites of all the problems created by the lack of toilets and correct
sanitation to our fellow employees, who quickly went 'potty' for the
campaign.
So far, our employees' fundraising has resulted in 29 toilets being
twinned across ten of our sites.
